Kelly Bryant is 'full-go' for Georgia Tech

Nine times out of ten, you are going to get a pretty good answer out of Dabo Swinney when you ask about his quarterbacks.

But on Tuesday morning, the head coach who has more words in him than a dictionary was rather short when asked about the health of his senior starter Kelly Bryant.

“He’s good, he’s good,” Swinney said.

Then he moved on. It was time to talk about Paul Johnson’s triple-option scheme that Swinney and his defense have dominated over the past few years. There weren’t many more questions concerning Clemson’s man behind center.

Bryant went down on a play he said he had never experienced before. While scrambling in the second quarter against Georgia Southern, Bryant was slammed to the ground and bounced awkwardly hard.

He actually landed on the ball, which knocked the wind out of him, and took a hit to the chest. Bryant returned to the game for the next series and led a touchdown drive, but left for the locker room right after and did not return to the game.

“It was one of those weird plays where you’re not really sure what happened, but just wanted to make sure everything was fine,” Bryant added.

Bryant said Tuesday afternoon he could have probably returned to the game but didn’t want to risk anything. However, the senior didn’t return from the locker room until the end of the third quarter.

But don’t be alarmed, Bryant is feeling much better and told us he was not limited during Monday’s practice.

“I’m feeling good. I’m feeling fine. I’m pretty much back to 100-percent right now,” Bryant said.

“I’m full-go. I’m ready to play today.”

Of his 44 attempts this season, Bryant has completed 68-percent of his throws for 405 yards. He’s no doubt what drives Clemson’s locker room so for him to be healthy, even with a capable backup in Trevor Lawrence, is a pretty big deal.

Clemson’s senior class is going for its fourth consecutive conference-opening victory. This would be the first time a Clemson senior class has swept its conference openers since 2002-05.

Bryant wants to be the man to lead his team on the first step of Clemson’s second quarter. The next goal: win the Atlantic division.

“It would be special, especially because of the guys we have here in the senior class,” Bryant said. “With the amount of work we put in, that would be special. We’re not worried about it. We’re just trying to get to 1-0 this week.”

Clemson takes on Georgia Tech in its conference opener on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
