What a Time: Clemson's campus is buzzing as all three major sports take the stage

There’s an excitement buzzing around Clemson’s campus unlike any other this week.

The weather is beginning to change, spring break is right around the corner, and three of Clemson’s major sports are beginning to overlap as if they were the ingredients to any of the famous sandwiches on a Pot Belly Deli menu.

The baseball team is 7-0. After an impressive resume-building sweep of Dallas Baptist, the rest of the country is beginning to raise some eyebrows at Monte Lee’s team.

If you’re a Clemson fan, you better be hungry.

The baseball team is 7-0. After an impressive resume-building sweep of Dallas Baptist, the rest of the country is beginning to raise some eyebrows at Monte Lee’s team.

This is the first time Clemson has started the season 7-0 since 2010. The Tigers have now cracked the top 10 in Baseball America’s poll after outscoring Dallas Baptist 24-4 over the weekend.

Clemson’s bats took charge while a pitching staff with a ton of questions answered them emphatically with impressive performances every day. The Tigers host Winthrop at home on Tuesday before being able to put their full attention on in-state rival South Carolina.

The greatest rivalry in college baseball is set to fill the entire weekend throughout the state, as it does every year. The Gamecocks are out for revenge after Seth Beer’s blast in the ninth inning with two strikes, and two outs tied the rubber match of last year’s series. Clemson went on to win the Sunday game in Columbia 5-3 in 11 innings.

There’s sure to be plenty more drama where that came from when these two teams square off on the diamond in five days.

Then, there’s a basketball program many thought wouldn’t be in the position it’s in right now. Picked to finish 13th in the ACC, the Tigers have a chance to do something they have never done in school history.

With a home win over Florida State on Wednesday night, Clemson would have 11 ACC wins on the season, which has never been achieved. Remarkable, considering all of the factors that have played out over the course of this rollercoaster of a season.

You have a head coach who fans wanted fired after his team collapsed down the stretch of games seemingly every week last season now vying for Coach of the Year awards for the job he has done. Brad Brownell has gotten all of the praise from North Carolina coach Roy Williams to Virginia Tech’s Buzz Williams.

“I believe the ACC Coach of the Year should be Brad Brownell,” Williams said after his Hokies defeated Clemson five days ago. “There was a lot of negativity in this room towards him 365 days ago. They’ve been top 20 all year long. He handled that negativity more professionally than Andy Kennedy has handled his last two weeks.

“What’s transpired in his program over the last 365 days, you don’t see that very often.”

A crucial win over Florida State on Wednesday would give Clemson fans something they’ve never seen, but also a greater chance at something rarely seen in this program: a double-bye in the ACC tournament.

Lastly, there’s football. Ah yes, we almost forgot.

Clemson football has found its way back to the forefront of everyone’s mind after almost two months too long.

Two months have felt like two weeks since Clemson left the field in New Orleans with its heads hanging low after losing to the eventual national champions.

With all the RPI rankings, Way-Too-Early polls, and speculation about the depth chart. It will be nice to finally see Clemson put on the pads in person and get back to work.

There are plenty of questions on everyone’s mind moving forward regarding Clemson’s 2018 team, which we’ll get to in time. For now, it’ll be great to finally hear from Dabo Swinney on Wednesday for the first time since he hauled in another top-10 recruiting class.

It’ll be interesting to see who stands out the most over these first few spring practices on both sides of the ball. Will the mid-years already have captured the attention of the coaching staff (i.e., Trevor Lawrence)?

So much of the talk and speculation about this team can end for a while as we get to hear from coaches and players themselves.

That is until the Spring Game ends. Then, talking season will begin once again.

Yes, what a time this week will be for Clemson fans all around. It’s time to sit back, take a breath of fresh spring air, and enjoy.
