According to multiple reports, the Kansas City Chiefs plan to sign former Clemson wideout Sammy Watkins to a three-year $48 million dollar contract.

The deal is expected to pay Watkins roughly $16 million per season over the life of the contract.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Watkins' plans to sign with the Chiefs when free agency opens on Wednesday at 4 PM.

Adding Watkins will help second-year quarterback Pat Mahomes significantly. The Chiefs already have offensive weapons in Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hilland, and Travis Kelce. Giving Mahomes another option should be a step in the right direction for Kansas City's offense.

Watkins had 39 catches for 593 yards and eight touchdowns last season for the Rams in his one and only season in Los Angeles. Watkins was traded to the Rams back in August.

In four seasons, Watkins, the 4th draft pick in the 2014 draft has 192 catches for 3,052 yards and 25 touchdowns.
