No. 8 Tigers Travel To Chapel Hill For Road Match
Clemson, S.C. - After a split weekend of ACC action at Historic Riggs Field, the Clemson Tigers (8-1-1, 2-1 ACC) get set to head across the border to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on their highest ranked opponent of the year in the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (10-1-0, 3-0 ACC). This will be the Tigers third road game of the year and their first since Sept. 1 when they defeated Creighton 1-0 in Omaha, Neb.
The Tigers concluded their first two-game weekend since opening up ACC competition with No. 6 Florida State and No. 16 Virginia Tech. The first-ranked RPI Seminoles and fourth-ranked
Hokies brought Clemson their second and third ranked opponents on the year. Clemson moved to 8-1-1 on the year with a 2-1 record in the ACC and against ranked opponents.
Tigers in the Polls
Despite falling to the defending National Champion and the county’s RPI leader by a 2-1 margin, the Tigers moved up one spot in the Oct. 1 United Soccer Coaches Poll to the number eight slot after a dominating 3-1 performance over Virginia Tech in their most recent matchup.
By the Numbers
Over the first 10 games of the season, the Tigers have continued their offensive dominance by outshooting opposition 166-68. In their most recent matchup with the fourth-ranked RPI team Virginia Tech, the Tigers powered over the Hokies 26-5 in shots. Throughout the season, Clemson has maintained their attacking zone pressure with a 71-27 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Feature
In her first year donning the orange and regalia, Maliah Morris has quickly jumped into the team lead for points with Mariana Speckmaier. Through 10 games the freshman has produced 10 points for the Tigers, coming in the form of four goals and two assists. In the last two games, Morris has accumulated two goals off of nine shots with five shots landing on goal. Her strike against Virginia Tech would mark her third game-winning-goal of the season.
