On Saturday, Clemson cornerbacks struggled against the rangy Wake Forest receivers. The Tigers were without starter Sheridan Jones which meant true freshmen Toriano Pride and Jeadyn Lukus, sophomore Nate Wiggins, and junior Fred Davis were left to log every snap.

They all either gave up a touchdown or were penalized in coverage. Pride, Davis, and Wiggins were hit with both.

Wiggins came into the season regarded as the most talented of the group, but he was also left in Wake Forests receivers' wake this past weekend.

He spoke to the media on Monday about what happened in the Top 25 matchup.

On how low it got dealing with the negative plays:

“It was pretty hard to deal with. I just had to stay back and just [get ready] for another play. Because you have a mindset as a cornerback that you have to go to the next play, because you always going to get caught while you're playing corner.”

“It was just a lot of adversity, so I just had to handle the adversity well. That's really it.”

On what it meant to make the pass deflection on the final play of the game:

“I wasn't really looking at that play. I was really looking at the other plays that I messed up on.”

On how important it was to finish on a positive note:

“It was pretty important just to show that with all the penalties and touchdown scored on me. That didn't affect me. I kept playing.”

On what was going through his mind when he lay on the field after the final play:

“I dropped the interception, and that was my second drop. So, I was kind of upset at myself, and I just had to get a moment to myself.”

On if the defense is frustrated that things haven't clicked yet:

“Nah, not really. We know what we can do, so that game doesn't show what we're capable of.”

On what cornerbacks coach Mike Reed said to him while watching film of his play:

“Just keep playing. Fight through adversity.”

On what graduate senior K.J. Henry said to him during the game:

“Keep playing. KJ told me he knows who I am. He's a great teammate.”

On expecting teams to look at the film and feel they can attack the corners consistently:

“They can try. I know what I can do. I will never have a game like that again. They can try, but it's not going to be the same results.”

On why he remains so confident after the bad game:

“I just know what I can do. I feel like one game doesn't expose who I am.”
