Linebacker recruiting board update, status report on all four targets
Clemson linebacker recruiting has historically been strong. The program signed seven consensus four-star (or higher) rated prospects since the 2020 class. The Tigers do not have a 2024 linebacker commit yet but will take at least two in the class. We have the latest on two Clemson targets:Quick chat: Clemson extends an offer to four-star Joseph Phillips:The night Phillips received his Clemson offer, we spoke with him about his visit to campus and his thoughts on the program. On Clemson: "Clemson is a good school. I like a lot about it- more than I expected, really. I am looking forward to building that relationship."Relationships: "I speak most with Wesley Goodwin, Coach (Lemanski) Hall, and even coach Dabo now."The offer: "I found out on my visit. I like that it's a hard offer to get, meaning it makes your opportunity more special."His impression of the program: "The way Coach Dabo took the time out to really give us the whole run down. It's a family environment, pretty much, a good place to just be."Update on Clemson four-star linebacker target Aaron Chiles:Aaron Chiles is a 6'3, 220-pound linebacker and the top-ranked 2024 recruit in Maryland. Chiles earned an offer from Clemson on June 1, 2022, when the Tigers sent their first significant wave of offers out to 2024 prospects. Chiles included Clemson in his top ten list on March 9 and is one of four linebacker prospects the Tigers have offered in the class (Sammy Brown, Drew Woodaz, and Joseph Phillips are the other three). While Chiles has reciprocated some interest from Clemson, our sources indicate he is trending toward Michigan. As a result, we have marked him on our Clemson Sports Talk recruiting board as an "unlikely Clemson commit." Following the news on Chiles, the Tigers will continue to focus on consensus five-star Sammy Brown -- who has always been the program's top linebacker target in the class -- alongside Drew Woodaz (brother of Wade, a current Tiger) and the newly offered Alabama native Joseph Phillips.Clemson Sports Talk recruiting board status on every linebacker target:Five-star Sammy Brown: Clemson is a top contender. It's a race between Clemson and Georgia at this point.Four-star Aaron Chiles: Unlikely Clemson commit.Three-star Drew Woodaz: Very likely Clemson commit.Four-star Joseph Phillips: Too early to tell. *players are listed in the order that Clemson offered them, from oldest (top) to newest (bottom).
