Phil Mafah on Clemson vs. South Carolina: 'You can throw records out the window'

On rivalry week: “Before I came to Clemson, I really had no knowledge on the Clemson-South Carolina rivalry. As Coach Swinney likes to say, you can throw records out the window. It’s really just about what team just comes to play, mentally prepared, and who has the best preparation throughout the week.”

On Will Shipley's performance versus North Carolina: “I could tell that he was definitely frustrated with the play. I talked to him. We all talked to him. He knew that we needed him to win this game. He was going to be a huge contributor to us winning that game. As coach talks about, we just have to forget about a bad play that we made and just continue to go out through the game. Just have a short memory and just continue to do you. That’s exactly what he did. He responded great. You saw he helped us win that game.”

On being a starting running back: “It’s important because being the first guy out there I just know I have the responsibility to give the team my all. Give us a great start. Whenever I have the ball in my hands or not, I’m just going out there and producing. Helping us lead and it’s big to me. I really feel like I need to be able to hold my own when I’m out there. It’s just an opportunity to go out there and support the team. Give them my all.”

On his future: “Right now, I’m honestly just focused on finishing. Closing out South Carolina and the bowl game. Just thinking about that after we get these priorities done.”

On his favorite Thanksgiving food: “I have to say Mac and Cheese for sure.”
