Former Clemson Safety Brian Dawkins Elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame
Former Clemson safety and Philadelphia Eagles legend Brian Dawkins will be enshrined into the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.
Dawkins played for the Tigers from 1992-1995 and was an All-ACC and second-team All-American selection in his senior season of 1995. He was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 1996 draft, and went on to spend 13 years in Philadelphia before spending his final three seasons in Denver.
Dawkins became known as a hard-hitter, but also a ball hawk. He revolutionized the way the modern safety plays the game, as he had the ability to cover the field or come down into the box and attack the run. His relentlessness earned him the nickname of "Weapon X", which is a codename of the Marvel superhero Wolverine. He was also known for his energy and leadership abilities in the locker room.
Dawkins is a nine-time pro bowler, as well as a five-time All-Pro selection. The Eagles have already inducted him into their Hall of Fame and retired his jersey number, #20.
In 2013, Clemson University established the Brian Dawkins Lifetime Achievement Award to annually honor a former Clemson player for their performance on the field, contributions in leadership and community service. Dawkins is the first former Clemson player to be selected for the Hall of Fame.
Dawkins will join Randy Moss, Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, Terrell Owens, Jerry Kramer, Robert Brazile, and Bobby Beathard in the 2018 class.
