Clemson Stays Undefeated with 74-66 Win over TCU in Canada
TORONTO – Clemson University men’s basketball remained undefeated with a 74-66 win over TCU in the Hall of Fame Series Toronto on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (9-0) were led by Joseph Girard III’s (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) 21 points, while PJ Hall (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) netted 17 and Ian Schieffelin (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) tallied 14 with nine rebounds.
Of Schieffelin’s nine rebounds, seven were on the offensive glass. He also led the team with five assists. Girard finished 8-for-9 from the line, ending his streak at 20-straight made free throws.
Clemson and TCU see-sawed in the early going of the opening stanza, but Clemson would take the one-point advantage into halftime, 36-35.
The Tigers opened the second half on a 21-7 run to blow the game wide open, and build a 15-point lead almost midway through the second half.
TCU closed the gap back to six, but Clemson never relented, rebuilt a 14-point lead, and finished the game with an eight-point win.
The Tigers committed nine turnovers in the first 10:45 of the game, but would commit just four the rest of the way (29:15), in addition to limiting the Horned Frogs to 32.2 percent shooting, including 3-of-16 from three.
Clemson finished 19-for-24 from the foul line, including shooting 41.4 percent from the field.
