Heart and Hustle: Receiver Chasing Clemson Dream

In the heart of Birmingham, Alabama, an underrated wideout named Clark Sanderson‍ has worked his way to a collegiate opportunity. The 5'10" wide receiver from Mountain Brook High School earned a preferred walk-on spot with Clemson in the 2024 recruiting class.

Sanderson, 165 pounds, is not your typical high-profile recruit. What he lacks in hype, he makes up for in heart and hustle. Primarily a wide receiver, his versatility extends beyond just catching passes. With a knack for special teams, he's also a reliable returner and holder for kicks, making him a valuable asset at the next level.

When asked about his decision to choose Clemson, Sanderson spoke of a long-standing relationship with the coaching staff and the program's commitment to player success both on and off the field.

"I would say my long-time relationship with the coaches since I have been coming to camp for so long, and also everything they offer outside of football to help players be successful," Sanderson remarked.

Clemson wide receiver coach Tyler Grisham, in particular, sees plenty of potential in Sanderson's game.

"They like my versatility as a returner and holder for kicks, as well as my ability to play the slot. They said I play with toughness and like the way I can get open," Sanderson revealed. Coach Grisham said he likes my hands and ability to track the ball downfield and make tough, contested catches."

Sanderson's ties to Clemson run deeper than most. His father was a teammate of head coach Dabo Swinney at the University of Alabama, fostering a unique connection that has been pivotal in Sanderson's journey to Clemson. "

Yes, my dad played with him at Bama. I have been coming to camp for many years, so I have known him most of my life," Sanderson shared.

Despite hailing from Crimson Tide territory, Sanderson hasn't faced much teasing from his friends about his commitment to Clemson. "No, my friends haven’t teased me about it. They have actually been pretty good about it," Sanderson stated.

As a preferred walk-on, Sanderson understands the challenges ahead but remains undaunted in his pursuit of success.

"I would say my goal is to earn a scholarship and find a way on the field, in any way possible," Sanderson explained. "To be the best that I can be no matter what. Not being heavily recruited kinda puts a chip on my shoulder, but I’m ready to work hard to earn my place. I can’t wait to give it my best shot. I’m all in!"

With his eyes set on the gridiron, the incoming freshman is out to prove that it's not about where you start but how far you're willing to go to chase your dreams.
