Tigers Dominate Yellow Jackets in Atlanta 81-57

ATLANTA – Georgia and Atlanta area natives Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) and Ian Schieffelin (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) combined for 37 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and finished 14-for-22 from the field and 7-of-10 from three in Clemson University men’s basketball’s 81-57 rout of Georgia Tech on Wednesday night.

The Tigers (18-8, 8-7 ACC) claimed their fifth road win in ACC play – tying a school record. Clemson also won five road games in the league last season (5-5) and 1986-87 (5-2) during Horace Grant’s senior campaign.

Clemson was led by Schieffelin’s 19, followed closely by Hunter’s 18. Hunter also tallied a game-high six assists.

Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) poured in 14 points on five baskets in front of his former coach, Jim Boeheim, who was on the television broadcast call for ACCN. Jack Clark (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) was steady once again for the Tigers, adding eight points, five rebounds and four assists.

Additionally, PJ Hall (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) netted his 37th consecutive double-digit scoring game with 14 points. He was efficient from the field (4-8), including 3-of-4 from three.

Clemson shot lights out, racing out to a 23-9 advantage in the opening five and a half minutes of the opening stanza. Georgia Tech would trim the lead down to six, but Clemson would push it back to double-digits and lead 43-31 at the break.

The Tigers improved its offensive prowess in the second half, shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three. Clemson finished 53.4 percent for the game and 48.3 percent from three (14-29).

Clemson tallied 21 assists to just five turnovers – its first game of 20+ assists and five or less turnovers this season. It was the fifth time this year that Clemson has totaled 20 or more assists. It tied for fourth best assist to turnover ratio in Clemson history. 4.2 to 1.

The Tigers return to the floor on Saturday, Feb. 24 when they host Florida State at 7:45 p.m. on the CW Network.
