CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball was powered by double-doubles from PJ Hall (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) and Ian Schieffelin (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) in its 69-62 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night in Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Tigers (20-8, 10-7 ACC) were led by Schieffelin’s 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Hall added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) tied for the team lead with Schieffelin and Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) with 15 points.

Girard was an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor and perfect on three 3-point attempts, including 2-for-2 at the line. Hunter was 6-for-6 at the foul line.

With his 12 points, Hall moved into 10th on Clemson’s all-time scoring list and now has 1,561 career points.

Clemson found themselves down by a game-high 10 points midway through the opening stanza. Pittsburgh started the game 5-for-6 from three and led 23-13 with 9:29 left. The Tigers rallied back to close the gap to just four at the break, 31-27.

A 12-4 run sent the surging Tigers into the lead 39-35 to begin the second half, but the Panthers had answers at each step following. After back-to-back threes from the Panthers’ Carlton Carrington and down 50-46, Clemson used a 10-2 run to get back into the lead.

Pittsburgh cut the Tiger lead to just one at 61-60, but Clemson used a 7-1 run, which included free throws from Hall, a three from Hunter and a fastbreak dunk from Schieffelin to help close out the Panthers and seal the victory.

Josh Beadle (Columbia, S.C./Cardinal Newman) aided the Tiger bench with eight points, three rebounds and an assist. Jack Clark (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) provided stern defense on the Panthers’ Blake Hinson and provided nine rebounds on the defensive glass.

The win was Clemson’s fourth victory of the season after trailing at halftime. It was the Tigers’ second win this season after trailing by 10 or more points during the contest.
