Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said last week that wide receiver Troy Stellato, who has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career, will not participate in practices after March 13 due to 'clean up' surgery for his left shoulder.
The redshirt junior recently spoke about the injury, his uncle's viral moment, and freshman receiver Bryant Wesco.
On the shoulder injury he suffered late in the season:
"I have a little labrum tear in the posterior labrum and something else they have to clean. It is just a cleanup injury that I have kind of been dealing with towards the late half of last year. I wanted to get half the spring in, kind of get the slot down.
"So that was a big thing rather than waiting to do it - seemed like the right thing to do because I'll be back around right before summer, fall camp."
On what he's seen from quarterback Cade Klubnik this spring:
"I told him the other day, 'Dude, you look so much more confident back there -- so much more poised.' Just leading the offense more like he's got that confidence starting to build in him that he really truly believes in himself, and we are truly believing in him. He truly looks like a different quarterback, honestly. He obviously showed what he could do last year but I feel he's taken a huge step."
On freshman receiver Bryant Wesco, who arrived on campus in January:
"He's different. He's good. He's really good. He's really fast and long. Great hands. I'm very impressed with him just as a mid-year guy, just coming right out of high school (technically still a high school senior), and he's making plays out there. He looks the part. He's gonna help us (this year) for sure."
On taking snaps at the slot position:
"I played slot pretty much all of high school. I'm honestly loving it. It feels very natural. I love going across the middle. I feel that's a strong part of my game. Just being versatile, playing all over the place is what I ultimately want to do. I feel I can play outside and inside so just being versatile because, at the next level, you got to play everywhere."
On the viral moment his uncle Sean Stellato (Stellato Sports Agency) shared with client New York Giants’ quarterback Tommy Devito's dad during the Dec. 11, 2023, Monday night clash between the Giants and Green Bay Packers:
"That whole thing was funny. He embraced it. It's been cool. It was one of the funniest days of my life seeing him on TV with Devito and doing all that. So, I saw that live, and I was scratching my eyes, saying, 'What is he doing?' He's a character. He's always been like that."
