Williams reveals main motivation to return to field after missing games in 2023
Clemson football held its Orange and White Spring game on Saturday, April 6 and Team Orange prevailed with a 27-12 win at Memorial Stadium.
Sophomore receiver Antonio Williams led the Orange in receptions with five, also a game-high, and had 62 receiving yards which was second to Orange teammate Adam Randall (85).
Williams, who missed eight games last season, was available for questions after his team's victory.
On how it felt to play in the game in the game:
"I was grateful to be out there honestly. And having great fans like Clemson does they're still coming out there even for a spring game. It's a blessing to be out there first of all, and getting to do what I love."
On the chemistry of the offense during the spring:
"Better than I've ever seen. We got everybody making plays. We just needed more confidence and throwing the ball and trusting that receivers are going to make plays. That's real big. And I think we're going to show it on August 31st."
On what he is looking forward to the most now that the offense is in year two and he's healthy:
"[I'm] just ready to prove myself. There's a lot of guys that came in with me in our receiver class and I see they're getting all this recognition. They deserve it. But I'm just hungry to prove myself too because I was right there with them."
On his main motivation to get back on the field after being injured and missing games last season:
"My main motivation is getting my mother whatever she wants. So whoever lines up against me is trying to stop me from doing that."
On what he saw from freshman receiver Bryant Wesco, who scored on a nine-yard touchdown reception:
"That man is one of one and he's really like that. We're going to use him. He's a great player. I've already known that. I've seen it in practice. You got big things coming for sure."
On describing the receivers and how they're jelling right now:
"Just hungry and ready to prove ourselves. In recent years, I feel like maybe we haven't played to the standard that is here at Clemson for receivers. This is our prove it year. That's what Coach [Tyler] Grisham is saying. So, we're just ready to prove that we can play to that level."
