CLEMSON, S.C.- Fourth-ranked Clemson men’s soccer (4-1-2, 2-1-0 ACC) earned its fourth shutout of the season, downing Wake Forest (2-3-3, 0-1-1 ACC), 1-0 in front of a raucous crowd of 6,222 fans at Historic Riggs Field.

Clemson had chances to grab a lead in the first half, forcing five saves from Wake Forest keeper Trace Alphin, but could not capitalize. The Demon Deacons only recorded one shot on goal in the match’s first 45:00, resulting in a save from Joseph Andema and keeping the match tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.

Joran Gerbet scored the first goal of the match and his second goal of the season at 52’. Remi Okunlola played a ball through the legs of one Wake Forest defender, then sprinted into the box and was fouled, resulting in Clemson’s first penalty kick of the season. Gerbet stepped up and buried it to give the Tigers the 1-0 advantage.

Joseph Andema made five saves in the match and earned his third shutout of the year. The Tigers outshot Wake Forest 19-13 and earned six corners to Wake Forest’s one.

Up next, Clemson plays host to Liberty at Historic Riggs Field on Tuesday, September 24th. The match will kickoff at 7 pm and stream on ACCNX. Tickets are available on ClemsonTigers.com.
