Hunter’s 30 Piece Not Enough in 84-71 Defeat at Boise State
BOISE, Idaho – Chase Hunter’s (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) career-high 30-point effort wasn’t enough in Clemson University men’s basketball’s 84-71 loss at Boise State on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (3-1) were led by Hunter’s 30 points. Hunter exploded for 20 in the first half – the most he’s scored in a single half in his career (19 on two occasions). He finished 12-21 from the field, including 4-8 from three and a perfect 2-2 at the line. He led the team with six assists and three steals.
Only Viktor Lakhin (Anapa, Russia/CSKA-2/Cincinnati) joined Hunter in double-figures, scoring 13 points and grabbing four rebounds. Ian Schieffelin (Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) added his 21st career double-digit rebounding game with 12 boards to go with eight points, two assists and a block.
Clemson struggled offensively from the floor, shooting just 36.8 percent, including 24.0 percent from three (6-25).
The Tigers trailed by just one after the opening stanza, 36-35, and regained the lead just two and a half minutes into the second period. Leading 39-38, the Broncos engineered a 13-4 run to push their lead to eight.
Hunter, who played outstanding throughout, helped ignite a Clemson run with a three point play to draw the deficit to just two points at 53-51 with 10:44 to play. Over the next four minutes, Boise State extended its lead to double-digits and would not look back.
The Tigers return to the floor on Thursday, Nov. 21 when they host Radford in Littlejohn Coliseum as an on-campus contest in the 2024 Sunshine Slam event. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
