Tigers Move to 4-0 in ACC with 80-68 Win Over Cal

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball received 55 combined points from Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake), Ian Schieffelin (Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) and Chauncey Wiggins (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) in a 12-point victory to move to 4-0 in the ACC on Saturday night in Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Tigers (12-3, 4-0 ACC) were led by Schieffelin’s 21 points, Hunter’s 19 and Wiggins’ 15. They combined to finish 23-for-32 from the floor. Hunter totaled a team-best six assists. Clemson finished with 18 total assists on 31 made baskets.

A back-and-forth first half saw the Tigers shoot 57.7 percent from the floor, but an Andrej Stojakovic 3-pointer had the Golden Bears down just three at the break 39-36.

Clemson was even more efficient in the second stanza, shooting 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the floor. Of the Tigers’ 41 second half points, 28 came in the paint. 

Viktor Lakhin (Anapa, Russia/CSKA-2/Cincinnati) didn’t play the first half, but started the second period and played 14 minutes and was a plus-12 on the court. 

Clemson returns to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 7 when it travels to Louisville for a 7 p.m. tip on ESPNU.

Notes: Clemson moves to 12-3 this season and 4-0 in the ACC … Clemson’s 4-0 start in league play is tied for the third-best start in program history … Head Coach Brad Brownell moved to 2-0 all-time against California … Coach Brownell won his 444th game of his career and his 277th while at Clemson … Clemson is fourth in the ACC since 2017-18 with 76 league victories … the Tigers finished 44.4 percent from three and are now 7-1 this season when shooting 40.0 percent or better from three as a team … Ian Schieffelin netted his second 20-point game of the season and fourth of his career … Chase Hunter 19 points and now has 1,488 career points – good for 13th all-time in Clemson history.
