Following a Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick might seem daunting, but Carson Beck isn't feeling the pressure. Stepping into the shoes left by Cam Ward at Miami, Beck spoke confidently about taking over the quarterback position during a recent media session.
"No, not really," Beck responded when asked if he felt pressure replacing Ward, who had a record-breaking tenure with the Hurricanes. "Obviously, his success is undeniable."
Beck, who transferred from Georgia after backing up a two-time national champion, highlighted his extensive experience playing quarterback as a reason for his confidence.
"The last school I was at, I followed up the two-time national champion, so I didn't really feel any pressure there," Beck said. "It's a game; I've played football my whole life. I've played quarterback since I was seven years old, and it's something that I love to do."
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal expressed excitement about Beck's competitive nature and high football IQ, emphasizing that Beck isn't trying to replicate Ward's achievements but instead is focused on becoming the best version of himself.
"We never look for the next [player]; we were looking for the first Cam Ward, and now we're looking for the first and best version of Carson Beck," Cristobal said.
Beck reinforced his comfort level with the Miami offense, praising the chemistry he's already building with teammates since arriving in January. The new Hurricanes quarterback is focused not just on personal success but on making Miami better as a team.
"I've got a lot of good talent around me and really good coaches in position to not only help me achieve my goals but be really successful," Beck said. "I'm just looking forward to the opportunity."
