Former Clemson Tiger Jamie Harper joins Clemson Sports Talk
Jamie Harper was on during our Wayback Wednesday edition of the show. Harper, whose career got off to an awkward start in 2008 fumbling his first career carry in Clemson's season opener against Alabama, talked about his time in Tigertown.
Here are a few of his comments from Harper's visit on Clemson Sports Talk. You can listen to the full interview with Harper below.
On Deshaun Watson:
"Aw man, I'm all the way tuned in with Deshaun Watson. I picked him up on my fantasy league in the fourth round. People were looking at me crazy. It was crazy! I'm a huge fan of him. Just the way he is on and off the field. Just having that breed of talent, that characteristic that comes from Clemson. It's just a blessing to watch it."
On Clemson winning a National Championship: "It honestly brought a tear to my eye to see them get out there and put that trophy in the air. Just knowing that we have that legacy at our school. It's mind-blowing. A couple of guys we all keep in contact, and we all get hype for the games. Just to watch that and to see the reality of us winning another national championship there's nothing better."
On his high school career: "It just sprouted for me. My junior year I got established at the running back position, and it just exploded for me. From there, just leading to the Under Armor All-American game. I was there with guys like Julio Jones, A.J. Green, E.J. Manual, Da'Quan Bowers, Andre Ellington. Just so many guys who came through the NCAA and are now in the NFL that I got a chance to play with. I couldn't ask for anything better."
On his first carry at Clemson: "It goes back in history with Bowden being our head coach he always gives a superstar or high-class running back the first carry. Alabama knew that so the first play of the game we tried to do a play-action. They had good coverage on it. So the next play, we come to the line, and I hear a linebacker calling out, "It's gonna be a run, its gonna be a run." They pointed in the backfield. One thing led to another, and I dropped the ball. Literally, I just dropped the ball. It was a big play in the hole, and I didn't hold onto it and pretty much got benched the rest of the game. It was a humbling experience.
