Tigers pick up a "Tiny" commitment

Clemson's recruiting class it the "dozen" mark today as 3-star defensive tackle Tayquon Johnson‍ committed to the Tigers at a ceremony at his high school. The Tigers 2019 class has continued to grow since the spring game. Johnson's commitment to Clemson is their 8th commitment this past month.

Johnson's recruitment has been interesting to follow, has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, Texas A&M, and many more Power 5 schools. 

Back in April, the 6'3 295-pound prospect nicknamed "Tiny" visited Clemson essentially boosting his national appeal. Johnson's versatility has made him an exciting prospect as he is well thought of as a defensive tackle and could even play offensive guard.

Considered the best line prospect in the state of Maryland in the 2019 class, Johnson has long arms and incredible strength. Johnson can both create and defuse havoc depending on which side of the ball he ends up playing, but Clemson covets him as a defensive lineman.

Johnson has flown under the radar a bit due to moving around and an injury to his wrist that held him out of action two years ago.

For many, Johnson's commitment to Clemson will come as a surprise, but we can tell you that the Tiger's staff felt confident about landing the big defensive tackle heading into today's announcement. 

Here's the thing, Johnson is a leader. He fits the mold for what Clemson has been seeking on the recruiting trail and should be another prospect that adds more than talent to the team. He has a chance to be a lockerroom leader for the Tigers down the road.
