Clemson players, coach respond to Texas A&M player calling Brent Venables a 'lying a**'
With the college football offseason at its peak, the anticipation for football to get here is at its highest form.
Now there's even more reason for Clemson fans to have the beginning of September circled on their calendar.
The hype around Clemson's trip to College Station, Texas on September 8th escalated Sunday night on Twitter when Texas A&M freshman defensive back Leon O'Neal called out Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
There was a tweet posted saying Venables had allegedly told 2019 five-star linebacker Nakobe Dean that if he came to Clemson, his first play would be a blitz.
Even though O'Neal wasn't tagged or referred to in the tweet, he somehow found it and responded:
"He told me the same thing lying a**."
O'Neal was a Texas A&M commit before de-committed and was pursued by Clemson at a high level. The defensive back ended up dramatically sticking with the Aggies when all was said and done. So with O'Neal at Texas A&M and with Dean still just a recruit, the response didn't make much sense.
But O'Neal's tweet did spark some early Fourth of July fireworks as the response caught a few Clemson players and a coach's attention.
Clemson defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell quoted the tweet and said, "And he's still the GOAT."
Defenisve back Trayvon Mullen also quoted the tweet and responded saying O'Neal "missed out" on playing for the defensive coordinator.
Then there was the best response of all from defensive back coach and analyst Deandre McDaniel. McDaniel made it seem as if there was more that went on during O'Neal's recruitment when it came to O'Neal making his final decision.
"If I said, I’ll marry you Then YOU decide to break up with me Am I considered a liar?" McDaniel posted.
Good point.
Even sophomore receiver Amari Rodgers chimed in with a tweet that was deleted shortly after.
"Stay in College Station.....You can worry about us come September 8th," the post read.
It's all in good fun, especially in the early stages of July, but it's safe to say the Aggies, who are already double-digit underdogs, will have Venables and his star-studded defense's undivided attention week two.
Clemson will kick off against Texas A&M on Saturday, September 8th at 7:00 PM eastern time on ESPN.
