Lawrence's efficiency set Clemson on a course for the College Football Playoff

December 7, 2018

When Dabo Swinney was faced with the decision to start freshman Trevor Lawrence over Kelly Bryant, there was no doubt about the reasons why. Through four games, Lawrence made the Tiger offense more potent, and the nail in the coffin for Bryant came at Georgia Tech when Lawrence guided Clemson to five scoring drives and four touchdowns passing against the Yellow Jackets.

As I noted then, “you didn't have to make the trip to Washington, D.C. to see the changing of the guard,” Lawrence was clearly the better option for the Tigers, and there was no mistaking the fact that his ascension to the top of the depth chart was inevitable.
