Clemson big man to participate in Charlotte Hornets pre-draft workout
It’s that time of year when NBA franchises start holding pre-NBA Draft workouts for potential draftees or undrafted free agents.
Monday, the Charlotte Hornets are holding a workout and Clemson big man Elijah Thomas has been added to the list of participants. The initial workout was only supposed to consist of six players, but two more players were added late.
Brandon Clarke, Forward, Gonzaga
Frankie Ferrari, Guard, San Francisco
Garrison Mathews, Guard, Lipscomb
Charlie Brown, Forward, St. Joseph's
Jon Davis, Guard, UNC Charlotte
Markell Johnson, Guard, NC State
Malik Yarbrough, Guard, Illinois State
Javin Delaurier, Forward, Duke
Thomas will be replacing Dukes Delaurier at the workout, the Hornets announced on their Twitter account.
He is listed as a forward, but has also played as a center for the Tigers and was a focal point around Clemson’s offense. Thomas was also known as a fantastic rim protector.
In the summer of 2018, Thomas was listed on ESPN as one of their way-too-early top 25 prospect lists at No. 20. He is listed as 6-foot-9, 245 pounds.
During the 2018-19 season, Thomas averaged 13 points on 61-percent shooting, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Thomas also averaged just over two blocks per game.
Last summer, Clemson’s Gabe DeVoe worked out with the Hornets and eventually was a member of their Summer League squad. Thomas is currently not projected to be drafted, but could turn heads at these summer workouts and get an opportunity to play in the NBA’s Summer League in Las Vegas just as DeVoe did.
