Clemson loses Donte Grantham for the season with torn ACL
Hours before Clemson found out that Zion Williamson wasn't coming to be the savior of Tiger basketball, they lost a lot more in 2018 as Donte Grantham crumpled to the floor in the late stages of Clemson's 67-58 win over Notre Dame.
Moments ago, it was confirmed that Grantham suffered a torn ACL in the second half of Clemson men’s basketball’s victory over Notre Dame on Saturday, Jan. 20. The senior forward will not be able to compete for Clemson again this season, thus ending his playing days in Tiger Town.
In a statement, Brad Brownell said, “I’m disappointed that Donte’s career at Clemson had to end this way. He was putting together a terrific season statistically, but he really helps this team in so many ways. He has been a pleasure to coach, and it has been fun to watch him mature and grow into the leader of our program. He is still a very valuable member of this team, whose leadership will continue to power this team moving forward. I’m confident he will attack this setback the right way and come back stronger than ever from this injury. He certainly has an exceptionally bright future in basketball.”
Grantham, who has seemingly embraced a leadership role in his final season at Clemson was off to a great start this season averaging 14.2 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Tigers. He also was shooting 56.0 percent from the floor and 42.0 percent from 3-point range this season.
The loss of Grantham's versatility could be a major issue for the Tigers as the 6'8 wing has been a tremendous asset on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor this season.
