No. 10 Clemson Opens Up ACC Play Against Notre Dame

Clemson, S.C. - The 10th ranked Clemson women’s soccer team welcomes the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to Historic Riggs Field on Sept. 20 to kick off the ACC portion of the season. The women’s team will open up Friday’s doubleheader action at 5 p.m. with the No. 7 men’s team squaring off against No. 15 Duke at 8 p.m.
With the newest set of rankings being released on Tuesday, Clemson becomes one of three programs in the country to have both mens and womens teams ranked in the top-10.
About the Tigers
Head Coach Eddie Radwanski and company have tirelessly worked to bring Clemson to a top-10 ranking early into the season. With an undefeated non-conference schedule and a ranked win over the then No. 7 South Carolina Gamecocks, the 6-0-1 Tigers open up ACC action on the right foot. Including Friday’s matchup, Clemson will be at home for three more games before hitting the road to continue conference play. Through the first seven games of the season, Clemson has outshot opponents 124-44 with a 15-2 goal advantage. Most notably, the Tigers have dominated in the attacking zone, leading opponents by a 54-17 margin in corners earned.
Players to Watch
In last Sunday’s in-state rivalry match with the Gamecocks, freshman Maliah Morris found the back of the net for the game-winner while also contributing a perfect shots-on-goal percentage. Because of her efforts, Morris was announced by the conference office this Tuesday as the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week alongside Louisville's Emina Ekic. She becomes the second Clemson player on the year to be named player of the week by the ACC and the second freshman this season to be recognized with the honor, the first as an offensive player.
Renee Guion added her NCAA-leading assist against the Gamecocks, moving her season total to eight. Guion has accounted for nearly half of Clemson’s assists on the year with the team total sitting at 17 through seven games.
About the Fighting Irish
Despite sitting at a 6-2 record before entering conference play, the Fighting Irish have only dropped two matches against top-25 opponents. However, the Irish have been receiving votes weekly since August 29th despite falling out of the bubble after losses to South Carolina and Iowa.
