Deshaun Watson leads Texans to 13-9 win
Former Clemson Tiger Deshaun Watson made his first career NFL start Thursday night on his 22nd birthday. Watson arrived at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinatti looking the part wearing sunglasses, a bow tie, and a sharp black tuxedo.
Soon after making his arrival, Deshaun Watson took to the field for warmups.
After a sluggish start, Watson led Houston down the field just before the half. The drive was capped off by an incredible 49-yard run from the former Tiger star. On the play, Watson dropped back, looked down field and broke out of the pocket into the open field. Watson then cut back and scampered into the end zone for the go ahead 10-3 just before the half.
The Bengals would get a field goal before the half closing the gap to 10-6.
At the half, Deshaun Watson was 8-13 passing for 73 yards. He was also sacked 3 times in the first half of action. On the ground, Watson has 2 carriers for 53 yards and a touchdown. The NFL Network's Michael Irvin said, "That's Micheal Jordan stuff right there. I told you he had it in him."
The second half was much less eventful by comparision. Cincinatti would get another field goal and trim the lead to 10-9, but Watson and the Texans could never muster a drive worth mentioning until late in the 4th quarter when Watson would led Houston on another scoring drive pushing their lead to 13-9 with 2:01 remaining.
Watson would finish his night 15-24 passing for 125 yards, no touchdown, no interceptions. Watson rushed for 67 yards on five carries with a touchdown. After the victory, Deshuan Watson would tell the NFL Network, "It's a dream come true. It's what I've been waiting for my whole life."
It wasn't a perfect night for the rookie, but for anyone watching it was clear that Houston has landed a special player in Deshaun Watson.
