The Storylines

Though Ohio State enters the Fiesta Bowl with 924 all-time victories, second-most in FBS history, the Buckeyes remain winless in three all-time meetings with Clemson. All three previous matchups have come in postseason play, including the 1978 Gator Bowl, 2014 Orange Bowl and 2016 Fiesta Bowl.

This year's contest will be a rematch of the teams' most recent meeting in 2016 in Clemson's only previous Fiesta Bowl appearance. Every meeting between the two programs has come with both squads ranked the top 20 in the AP Poll. This will mark the second straight time that the teams will meet with both squads in the top three.

Eleven members of Clemson's current roster played in the Tigers' 31-0 defeat of Ohio State in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl. Current Clemson center Sean Pollard actually started at right tackle in the contest, playing 53 snaps from scrimmage while sharing playing time with current Clemson right tackle Tremayne Anchrum, who played 37 snaps in the game.

Nine players on Clemson's current roster, including Pollard and Anchrum, recorded at least one offensive or defensive snap in the contest: wide receiver Cornell Powell (23), wide receiver Diondre Overton (10), guard John Simpson (10), guard Gage Cervenka (eight), safety Denzel Johnson (one), safety Tanner Muse (one) and safety K'Von Wallace (one). Two players on Clemson's current team appeared only on special teams in that game: linebackers Chad Smith and James Skalski.

3:07 left. Who will advance to the national championship in New Orleans against LSU? We're about to find out on this next drive for Clemson. Clemson has to take advantage here because they're probably not going to get another shot

Etienne scores on a beautifully designed play for a 34-yard touchdown. The two point conversion from Lawrence to Higgins is successful. We've got 1:49 left with Clemson up 29-23. Ohio State ball needing 75 yards to take the lead.
