'We Couldn't Wait To Play Them Again': Skalski Pleased With Defense's Performance
After leading the Tigers to a sixth consecutive ACC crown, senior linebacker James Skalski sat down with the media to discuss the win. Here’s what Skalski had to say about the rematch victory over Notre Dame.
ON THE EXCITEMENT LEVEL FOR THE REMATCH WITH NOTRE DAME:
”Ever since that loss, we knew if we took care of business and they took care of business we were gonna see them again. We were really happy that we got to see them again. We couldn't wait to play.”
ON HOW THIS GAME COMPARES TO OTHER ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES:
”This is definitely the most hyped up ACC Championship game, and rightfully so. They're a great team. It's just another game for us, though. We knew if we're at full force and we're firing all cylinders what we can do to people, and that showed.”
ON DEFENSE SETTLING IN AFTER THE FIRST QUARTER:
”Yeah, I think if you look at the things they got on us, we gave them. We just [had] guys trying to do a little too much. When we settled in, we just started doing our job, not trying to do too much. The rest is history. Even on the last drive when they scored, we were really frustrated about that. We were not happy that we gave them that.”
ON A DIFFERENCE IN INTENSITY LEADING UP TO THIS GAME:
”I sensed a different level on this his whole team. We treat every game the same way, don't get me wrong, but when you listen to some of the things they were saying leading up to this game, they pushed some buttons I think they wish they shouldn't have pushed.”
ON WHETHER HE WOULD COME BACK FOR A SIXTH SEASON:
“I've definitely thought about it. I just don't know, so we’ll find out. I'll let y'all know when I know, but I don't know.”
ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE FRESHMEN :
”We say it all the time. When you get this part of the year, freshmen aren’t freshmen anymore. I mean, those guys have played 10 games. You’re seasoned; you're ready to go. It's been nice seeing them learn how to study the game and a lot of the older guys helped them through that process.”
