Clemson gets hard-hitting Virginia safety
Four-star safety Sherrod Covil Jr. (Oscar Smith High School, VA) committed to Clemson over Miami, North Carolina, and Notre Dame on Thursday.
Covil (6'0, 190) took visits to Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, and Virginia just in June but canceled scheduled trips to UNC and Notre Dame after spending time at Clemson's Elite Retreat.
The hard-hitting Chesapeake, VA native, is the No. 11 safety and No. 198 overall recruit in prep football, according to 247Sports composite.
With Covil's pledge, Clemson now has six commits in the 2022 recruiting class.
The Tigers could add another four-star secondary recruit to the class soon. Cornerback Toriano Pride (Lutheran North High, MO) is set to announce his college decision among the Tigers, his home state Missouri Tigers, Ohio State, and Oregon on Friday.
