Dawes’ Dagger Drops Drake

ATLANTA — With Clemson University men’s basketball leading by three in overtime, Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J./The Patrick School) drained a corner three to help seal a 90-80 overtime victory over Drake in the 2021 Holiday Hoopsgiving.

The Tigers (6-4) dominated the overtime period 16-6 with 13 of those points coming from the Tiger backcourt. The aforementioned Dawes finished with six, while Nick Honor (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland) scored seven of his final 12 points in the five-minute stanza. Dawes finished with 19 points, five assists and four rebounds.

PJ Hall turned in the best performance of his career, finishing with a career-high-tying 22 points and a career-best 13 rebounds to tally his first-ever double-double. Hall also finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line in the game, while chipping in two assists.

Clemson posted two double-doubles against the Bulldogs (6-4) with David Collins (Youngstown, Ohio/First Love Christian Academy) totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds to secure his second double-double in the last three games.

Alex Hemenway (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) ignited the Tiger bench hitting four triples and adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals for his best performance of the season.

The Tigers outrebounded the Bulldogs 38-27, including 19-5 in fast break points and 18-10 in bench points. Clemson finished 23-for-27 at the foul line, including 8-for-10 in overtime.

Clemson returns to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 14 when it hosts Miami (Ohio) for a non-conference tilt on ACCNX. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from Littlejohn Coliseum.
