While football fans were celebrating the commitment of quarterback Christopher Vizzina on Tuesday evening, basketball fans also received some great recruiting news.
Former Princeton Tigers All conference standout Jaelin Llewellyn announced his commitment to the basketball program via Twitter, "Something about them Tigers!!! Excited to announce my commitment to Clemson University!!"
Llewellyn, named among the best players in the transfer portal, selected Clemson over many schools.
Alabama, Arkansas, Butler, California, Cincinnati, Creighton, Depaul, Georgetown, George Mason, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Memphis, Miami, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Seton Hall, SMU, Stanford, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Washington State, Western Kentucky, West Virginia, and others.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior combo guard averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2 5 assists, and shot over 38 percent on three-pointers for the 2021-22 season. On Feb. 25, 2022, he scored a season-high 29 points in a 74-67 conference win over Harvard.
Llewellyn has career averages of 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists over three years, not four, because Princeton sat out the 2020-21 season due to Covid-19.
The Ontario native was originally recruited and offered by head coach Brad Brownell as a senior at Virginia Episcopal School (VA) in 2018.
He was the 18th ranked point guard in the class and chose Princeton over Clemson, Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Providence, Purdue, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, and others.
Llewellyn, the son of former Wake Forest (1991-92) and Providence (1993-95) forward Cordell Llewellyn, is immediately eligible to play in 2022 and will have another year, if he chooses, after obtaining his degree from Princeton.
With his skills and experience, Llewellyn will also provide immediate help to a backcourt that lost veteran guards Nick Honor and Al-Amir Dawes to the portal this offseason.
