Clemson Kicker BT Potter 'really proud of the guys' on special teams

With 10 points in the game at FSU, placekicker B.T. Potter (413 career points) passed Chandler Catanzaro (404 from 2010-13) to become the highest-scoring kicker in Clemson history. He trails only running back Travis Etienne (468) in career points in Clemson history.

Potter sat down with the media earlier this week to discuss his success and how the special teams' units have played this season.

On preparing for games and his confidence:

“I just have confidence going into the game because of how I prepared over the week. I feel if I prepare well, it'll translate pretty good.”

On the importance of special teams in winning games:

“It's awesome to see that (Special teams contributing so much during games). I think that comes from how we prepare and the standard we hold ourselves to as special teams here. So I'm just really proud of the guys.”

On kicks that stand out in his career memory:

“There's a few I can look back on. They were big kicks for me. I remember Notre Dame the COVID year-- that's the game where I feel like I took the next step in becoming a better kicker. Then Wake Forest game that year, the first game of the season. I feel like I needed that game after a rough season the year before.”

On playing on the road:

“It’s fun to go into new stadiums and play in new places. I like a loud crowd-- it's exciting.”

On the distance he feels comfortable kicking:

“It changes each week.  Florida State that's probably the best place we've played this year for that day.  There was no wind, and they had really good grass, so I felt like 60 and in there.  Maybe this weekend, it could be windy in one direction, so sometimes I will tell them 52 in one way and 57 in the other, so it depends on the wind and what's going on. My goal is 55, and in, I should be able to handle that wherever we go.”
