CLEMSON, S.C. - Valerie Cagle launched her 14th home run of the year, but the No. 6/6 Florida State Seminoles capitalized on nearly every opportunity to down the Tigers in both games of Thursday’s doubleheader, 7-0, 4-1. The wins move the Seminoles to 31-7 (10-1 ACC), while the No. 4/4 Tigers now sit at 37-3 (12-2 ACC).

Game 1 - L, 0-7

Florida State’s Michaela Edenfield went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBIs to lead the No. 6 Florida State Seminoles to a 7-0 victory over fourth-ranked Clemson. Clemson made three costly errors that the Seminoles were able to capitalize on to help secure the win.

Valerie Cagle broke up the FSU no-hitter in the bottom of the fourth with an infield single. Pinch-runner Julia Bomhardt stole second, but the Seminoles got out of it following a pitching change.

In the top of the fifth, Florida State plated three runs on two hits to break the scoreless tie, then used a three-run homer in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 7-0.

Cagle drops to 18-2 in the circle after pitching six innings with five strikeouts. Ali DuBois earned the win for the Seminoles, throwing an inning and two-thirds, while allowing just one hit. Kathryn Sandercock picked up the save, going 2.1 innings and only allowing one baserunner.

Game 2 - L, 1-4

Florida State got the early jump in the second game of the day, as well. After the leadoff batter got on in the third inning, both batters following advanced her to third to allow a single to the left side to plate the first runner. FSU followed by loading the bases in the fourth and plating two to make it 3-0.

The Tigers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run from Cagle into right center. It marked Cagle’s 14th homer of the season and put her on a 10-game hitting streak to make it 3-1.

FSU hit a solo shot in the top of sixth to extend its lead back to three with a 4-1 advantage which would hold for the remainder of the game.

Millie Thompson started in the circle and pitched four innings with two strikeouts and fell to 11-1 in the circle. She was replaced in the fifth by sophomore Brooke McCubbin. McCubbin pitched the two innings before Regan Spencer came in to pitch the final inning with one strikeout.

For Florida State, Kathryn Sandercock threw a complete game in the circle, allowing five hits, for her 13th win of the season.
