No. 1 Deshaun Watson

No conversation about Clemson's top quarterbacks is complete without mentioning the electrifying Deshaun Watson. From 2014 to 2016, Watson's dazzling performances captivated the nation as he led the Tigers to two consecutive College Football Playoff appearances-- including a thrilling National Championship victory in 2016 over Alabama.

Watson's dual-threat ability, unmatched poise under pressure, and remarkable accuracy solidify his status as one of Clemson's all-time greats.

Watson became the first player in college football history to put together a 4,000/1,000 season in 2015, passing for 4,109 yards while rushing for 1,105. For those that disagree with Watson being on the top of our list, consider this, Trevor Lawrence never threw for 4,000+ yards in any season and didn’t have 1,000+ yards rushing for his combined career totals.

The arrival of Trevor Lawrence in 2018 marked the beginning of a new era in Clemson football. With his prototypical size, arm strength, and football IQ, Lawrence immediately showcased his prowess on the field. As a true freshman, he led the Tigers to a perfect 15-0 season, culminating in another National Championship triumph. The Tigers exploded for a 44-16 win over the Crimson Tide to bring home their second championship in just three seasons.

No. 3 Tajh Boyd:

Tajh Boyd's impact on Clemson's football program cannot be overstated. From 2010 to 2013, he shattered numerous school records, leaving an enduring legacy. Boyd's combination of passing prowess and rushing ability made him a dual-threat nightmare for opposing defenses. Under his guidance, the Tigers clinched their first ACC Championship since 1991 and made their first Orange Bowl appearance in over three decades. Boyd's contributions paved the way for Clemson's rise to national prominence.

• Owns the 3rd, 4th, and 5th best single-season marks in program history, passing for 3,896 yards in 2012, 3,851 yards in 2013, and 3,828 passing yards in 2011.

• Tied for the second most single-season touchdowns with Trevor Lawrence with 36 in 2012.

No. 4 Charlie Whitehurst

Before Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, and Tajh Boyd, there was Charlie Whitehurst. Whitehurst's tenure from 2002 to 2005 saw him excel as a prolific passer, becoming the program's all-time leader in passing yards at the time with 9,665. He also set the program mark for completions. His ability to dissect defenses and deliver accurate throws earned him the respect of his teammates and fans alike. Whitehurst's steady presence and offensive prowess laid the groundwork for future success at Clemson. 

Whitehurst finished his career 4-0 against the South Carolina Gamecocks, including leading a 63-17 beatdown in Wililams-Brice Stadium back in 2003.

No. 5 Homer Jordan

No list of top Clemson quarterbacks would be complete without Homer Jordan, who played an instrumental role in the program's first National Championship run in 1981. Jordan's exceptional athleticism and calm and collected demeanor made him a force to be reckoned with. He guided the Tigers to a 12-0 season, culminating in a title-clinching 22-15 victory over the No. 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Jordan was named the Orange Bowl National Championship MVP for his performance in that game.

While his numbers were not superb compared to the other four players on this list, the game has changed significantly since the 1980s. Jordan’s passing numbers won’t jump off the page throwing for 4,169 yards in his career, completing 297 of 534 passes with 21 touchdowns and 26 interceptions, but his legacy as a trailblazer for Clemson football remains firmly intact.
