Former Clemson Tiger Isaiah Simmons traded from Cardinals to N.Y. Giants
The Arizona Cardinals traded 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Simmons to the New York Giants just before Week 1 of the NFL season.
Simmons, who switched to safety this offseason, was dealt for a 2024 seventh-round pick.
This decision follows his recent preseason game in the new role and the Cardinals' choice to not pick up his fifth-year option. Drafted eighth overall from Clemson, Simmons displayed versatility in his early years, but conversations with new coach Jonathan Gannon led to his exclusive focus on the defensive back position. Simmons has spent most of his time in the NFL at inside and outside linebacker, but has a desire to play in the secondary.
Joining the Giants reunites Simmons with Dexter Lawrence. The duo last played together during Clemson’s run to the 2018 National Championship.
The Cardinals host the Giants in Week 2, making the move all the more intriguing.
