JUSTYN TIME. Former Clemson standout wide receiver, Justyn Ross, has secured a spot on the 53-man roster with the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite going undrafted in 2022, Ross has earned a spot through dedication and determination. His journey faced a setback last year with a foot injury sidelined him for his entire rookie season, but he showcased his resilience making the cut this year.
Ross's college career at Clemson showcased his exceptional skills and perseverance. He overcame challenges, including missing the 2020 season due to a congenital issue in his neck, but left an indelible mark during his tenure from 2018 to 2021. Spanning 39 career games with 24 starts, Ross hauled in an impressive 158 passes for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns, including a dazzling performance as a freshman in the College Football Playoff.
His collegiate return not only fueled his own aspirations but also earned him recognition as one of the recipients of the ACC's Brian Piccolo Award.
KEY GAMES. With a full slate of college football on the horizon, ESPN’s Heather Dinich evaluated the ten games that could most impact the College Football Playoff. With his being the final season of the four-team playoff model, here are a few key games according to Dinich and some of my thoughts on a couple of games that could impact your Tigers.
- 1. Nov. 25: Ohio State at Michigan
- 2. Nov. 4: LSU at Alabama
- 3. Nov. 18: Georgia at Tennessee
- 4. Oct. 14: USC at Notre Dame
- 5. Sept. 9: Texas at Alabama
- 6. Sept. 3: Florida State vs. LSU
- As I’ve noted on the radio, I think this game is arguably as important for Clemson’s playoff chances as the matchup with FSU in Death Valley. Here’s why: If the Noles win this matchup and then beat Clemson, the Tigers' chances of making a run to the playoff are still alive. If Florida State is undefeated heading into a rematch with a one-loss Clemson in the ACC Championship Game a win in Charlotte would likely land both ACC schools in the playoff.
- 7. Sept. 23: Ohio State at Notre Dame
- 8. Nov. 11: Michigan at Penn State
- 9. Oct. 21: Penn State at Ohio State
- 10. Sept. 23: Florida State at Clemson
- With divisions gone, this could be a precursor to the larger matchup in December for the ACC Championship and a shot at the College Football Playoff. The Seminoles have reconstructed their roster through the portal, while Swinney has been hesitant to over-utilize it, leaning on loyalty. If FSU finds a way past Clemson twice this year, perhaps the portal will become a larger part of Swinney’s philosophy, but until he’s proven wrong, I would expect limited use of the portal by the Tigers.
THE BIG SCREEN. In an exciting development for Atlantic Coast Conference football fans, ESPN has forged a groundbreaking partnership with Theater Sports Network to showcase ACC football games, including road matches, on the silver screen. As first reported by Matt Fortuna, this collaboration promises to immerse fans in the heart of the action, redefining the game-watching experience.
Under this innovative agreement, approximately 75 ACC football games will be aired in local movie theaters throughout the season. The lineup isn't limited to regular-season clashes alone – fans can look forward to catching the exhilarating New Year's Six bowl games and the highly anticipated College Football Playoff national championship game, all on the big screen.
This collaboration's magic lies in ACC games that air on ESPN platforms being seamlessly made available for distribution through Theater Sports Network. Whether it's the home turf showdowns or neutral-site encounters, Theater Sports Network is set to bring games to fans in the area.
