Klubnik: After hearing boos in Death Valley, 'I had to come back and refocus'
On hearing fans booing and was that a wakeup call for the team: "It was just a horrible decision on my part. I tried to throw it away, but I just didn't throw it far enough. It was just a bad decision and completely my fault. The offensive line, the receivers, and the running backs were playing a heck of a game.”
"I had to come back and refocus. I had a decision to make. I can chin it and keep rolling and play like me or I can let the external factors, the fans, and what people are saying come to my soul. I just didn't let that happen. I had great support from my teammates, Coach Swinney, and Coach Riley. They believe in me. So, I went out and played loose again."
On the fumbled handoff to running back Phil Mafah: "I was just doing too much. I got a little hesitant. I kind of saw something pre-snap that kind of spooked me a little bit and it was kind of [a] fluke of a play."
On getting his first win as a starter: "It was a great feeling. I'm just so proud of the guys. Obviously, it's a tough week, but are we going to let one game affect our entire season? Are we going to try to make history? We just had to focus on this game. We can't go 14-1 if we don't win this game. So it was fun to get out there after a short week. I think we were glad with that.
On having full support from his teammates: "I'm so thankful for them. The work that we put in, and just so thankful for what they mean to me. I try to be the best leader I can every single day. I'm not perfect. I'm not ever going to play a perfect game. But the way that they just kind of corralled me. Let's freakin go. I didn't have to flinch because I knew that 10 guys were going out with me and trusted in me."
On winning a home game after last year's 30-31 loss to South Carolina: "You got to celebrate the wins. No matter how you play. If your receivers have six drops and no yards, you got to celebrate. Because it's tough to win, especially in college football. To be in the valley. I've missed it. There's no better atmosphere in college football. There's no better stadium or fans in college football."
