We heard from running back, Phil Mafah, following Clemson’s 31-23 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday. Watch the full video or take in a few notes of what was discussed in Tiger Town here!

Phil Mafah

On how special this win is: “It was what we needed. I knew what I had to do in order for this team to succeed and I couldn’t have done it without the guys upfront, without the coaches, without just fighting for my brothers– that’s really what I was trying to focus on today, just fighting for this team, fighting for my brothers. And I give all glory to God.”

On how important this win is heading into November: “It’s very important and we needed that momentum going into November. Coach always talks about ‘they remember November’ so we needed this. This was definitely vital for this season and it’s given us more confidence to just keep going and finish well.”

On the chip on the team’s shoulder: “There was a big chip on everyone’s shoulders. Coach Swinney just talked about executing all week and talked about defending the Valley and playing for your ‘why’ and everyone just brought it today. That’s what it looks like to just play a full game of football right there.”

On Dabo Swinney: “There is no one that loves us more than he does. I take it personally, and I know a lot of guys on the team do, so we just had to bring our all today and fight for him especially.”

On the offensive line being ready today: “Something just felt different today. You know the guys with the past two weeks we’ve had, they’re just hungry to get the job done. Being in the Valley, the fans roaring, that really helped a lot too.”

On the 41-yard touchdown run: “It felt great to finish. I just saw that the cutback was there, it was wide open, the guys blocked it up perfectly and all I had to do was just run my fastest to the end zone and I was able to get there.”
