Following Clemson's 35-12 win over Furman, Tiger DC Wes Goodwin met with the media to discuss the victory. Goodwin, who is in his first season as the defensive coordinator, noted that there were a lot of positives to be taken away, but that a short turnaround, led to a whirlwind week for the staff and players.

Opening Statement:

“Want to congratulate our guys on two wins in five days. What a blur of a week it’s been. Tip your hats to Furman. They came out with a great game plan. They were really efficient on 1st and 2nd downs. They were getting the ball out on the perimeter. Getting the ball out of the quarterback's hand with the quick game, but our guys handled the adjustments really well.”

“The name of the game is points-- our job is to keep them from scoring, and we held them to 12 points. So our defense was really good. We’ve got to work to improve 1st and 2nd down efficiency. Just got to do a much better job there overall.”

On if the Tigers over-pursued at times:

“Most definitely, that’s kind of the attack mode when you are really good in the front seven, people are going to screen you-- especially when you have an aggressive mindset and get after people. A couple of those calls, we just got overly aggressive-- just got up the field too far and couldn’t react back in time.”

On if a short week caused some of the missed tackles:

“Maybe a little bit-- it’s hard to say. It is tough to respond after a short week. In season, it’s all thud. We don’t tackle to the ground against our own guys. That’s just part of fundamental defense that you are going to work on every day.”

On Barrett Carter:

That’s been cool to see. I know what Barrett can do seeing him every day. It’s been cool for him to get that exposure around the country. Just seeing his hard work and everything that he has put into the process.”

On correcting the mistakes:

“They already know their mistakes and stuff. As soon as it happens, they can tell you what went wrong and what we need to clean up in that situation. They will push all the corrections to them and they will watch it on their own. On Monday, we will spend half of our meetings correcting things as well. Our guys understand the process and are very self-aware.”

On Tyler Davis:

“He just got banged up, and we decided to hold him.”

On having a regular week:

“I’m a routine guy. It will be cool to go home and enjoy this win. Then get up, grade it, and put this game to bed. Then move on to the next opponent and get rocking and rolling from there. I think our guys are ready as well. Crazy week-- start on a Monday, play on a Saturday. It’s been a blur, no doubt.”
