Clemson Falls at Wake Forest, 85-77

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball lost its third consecutive game of the ACC season, falling 85-77 at Wake Forest on Wednesday night.

The Tigers (20-7, 10-4 ACC) were led by Jake Wahlin (Provo, Utah/Timpview/Utah), who finished with a season-high 17 points and five rebounds. Ace Buckner (Dallas, Texas/La Lumiere School (Ind.) followed with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Clemson gave up a 12-2 run to the Demon Deacons in the first half and trailed by as much as 20 during the opening stanza. The Tigers answered back with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 13 at the half and trailed 45-32 at the break.

Carter Welling (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon/Utah Valley) extended his double-digit scoring streak to four straight games, recording 13 points and 6 rebounds.

In the second half, Clemson continued to shift the momentum and opened on a 9-1 run to cut the Demon Deacon lead to just five at 46-41. However, the Demon Deacons remained resilient despite the Tigers’ effort and pushed their lead back to 14 with 5:07 left in regulation.

The Tigers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they host Florida State at 12 p.m. on The CW.
