In the current FPI rankings, Ohio State is at # 2 and Penn State is at # 3 despite having two losses each. Notre Dame is one spot ahead of Georgia (despite the Dawg's win AT ND). Clemson checks in at # 7 (whatever, I guess our strength of schedule is not up to SEC standards). Texas is at # 21 with a 4 - 5 record, and Florida State is at # 24 with a 3 - 5 record.

It's a weird ranking system, and I wish they would explain it more. But from what I understand, it's more of a predictive system that uses stats and yardage and whatnot and doesn't necessarily rely on results as much. It just predicts remaining games for the teams involved.

I've never really understood it at all. Seems pretty complicated to yield bogus results like that.

So, according to the great predictive powers of the FPI, we should prepare for Armageddon. Using their rankings, there will be 7 teams with a legitimate argument for the 4 spots:

Alabama at 13 - 0 and SEC Champions
Ohio St. at 11 - 2 and Big 10 Champions
Notre Dame at 11 - 1
Washington at 12 - 1 and Pac 12 Champions
Georgia at 12 - 1 and SEC runner-ups
Clemson at 12 - 1 and ACC Champions
Oklahoma at 12 - 1 and Big 12 Champions

Who would get in? Who would get left out?

Ohio State is out. No two loss team is making it unless there's a bunch of them like back in 2007.

Washington's schedule is a weak spot and they'd get left out.

1. Alabama
2. Notre Dame
3. Clemson
4. OU/UGA

If I had to guess, it would be OU. The committee doesn't want two teams from one conference.

Care to revise this statement? I'm not sure we won't get a 2 loss team in.

I did give the caveat of "unless there's a bunch of them."

Lets say... Clemson Wisconsin and Oklahoma win out. If Auburn wins out. Iron bowl and Sec champ. Does Auburn beat out 1 loss Bama and Miami?

I think the 2 loss Auburn gets in

I know thats a lot of what ifs...
