If you’ve been waiting for some good news to come out of Tiger Town on the COVID-19 front, you may have gotten it today.

During Clemson’s Board of Trustee’s meeting earlier today, it was announced that over 800 tests of student and staff resulted in no active cases of COVID-19. There are also no student-athletes in isolation at this time.

Clemson University athletic director Dan Radakovich said that everything remains on schedule to beginning football practice on Aug. 5.

As for the impact that Clemson expects from COVID-19, it is estimated that the FY 21 impact could land between $70-$135 million.

With Clemson University starting the school year with off-campus instruction, the odds that the Tigers football team can kick the season off are looking much better. With the current plan in place for students to return to campus on Sept. 13, before starting classes on Sept. 20, it’s possible that the football team, even without a “bubble” could be set up for a minimum of five games.

The other thing that you have to keep in mind is that it will take more than just Clemson’s efforts to keep the season afloat. This is a battle that each athletic department has to face, and excellent results at one school will not be enough, but it’s the best news we’ve heard lately.

Now that’s not what everyone wants to hear, but the reality of keeping COVID-19 at bay with a full student body on campus still seems a bit far fetched, but for now, things seem to be going well for the Tigers.

The UpstateToday.com’s Riley Morningstar brought the news to light via his Twitter account moments ago.
