No. 9 Seed Clemson Returns to Riggs Field to Host No. 16 seed Stanford in Elite 8
CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 9 seed Clemson men’s soccer program is set to host continue its 2023 NCAA Tournament journey on Saturday evening, hosting No. 16 seed Stanford in the Elite 8 inside Historic Riggs Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN+.
The Tigers earned a first-round bye with a national seed after capturing their fifth ACC Tournament Championship on Nov. 12. Clemson went on to defeat Charlotte, 3-0, in the second round and upset No. 8 New Hampshire, 1-0, on the road in the Sweet 16 on Sunday to advance to its 17th Elite 8 appearance in program history. With a win, the Tigers are looking to make their 10th College Cup appearance.
Stanford advanced to the Elite 8 after upsetting No. 1 seed Marshall, 3-0, on Sunday. This is the Cardinal's first time advancing to the Elite 8 since 2019.
Clemson owns a 0-2-1 record all-time against the Cardinal. This will be the first time the Tigers face Stanford since meeting in the Elite 8 in 2019 at Historic Riggs Field. Stanford advance that season to the College Cup after defeating Clemson, 5-4, in penalty kicks.
