Dabo Swinney and Clemson University secured the commitment of Watson Young on Sunday afternoon. The talented offensive lineman, hailing from Central, SC, has chosen to join the family legacy by becoming a Tiger.
Young’s father, Kyle, works as an assistant athletic director and is the only three-time Academic All-American in Clemson football history. His uncle Will also played for the Tigers from 1993-95.
Additionally, Young’s great-grandfather, Ed McLendon, was a starter on Clemson’s 1939 team Cotton Bowl team. That season, the Tigers compiled a 9–1 record, outscoring opponents by a total of 165 to 40, and defeated Boston College in the 1940 Cotton Bowl Classic. The 1940 Cotton Bowl was Clemson's first bowl game.
Young had been committed to App State but will play a bit closer to home after pledging to the Tigers.
