The 2024 college football season will kick off in August, and the ACC will have a new look with three additional teams joining the conference. Across the conference and college football, the transfer portal has sparked a new wave of recruiting.

Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some transfers heading to the ACC that we expect to make an immediate impact on the 2024 season. The portal opens again for the spring transfer period from April 15-30, so there could be more additions by the start of fall camp.

Virginia Cavaliers

Chris Tyree, WR: The wide receiver arrives for his final year of eligibility after four seasons with Notre Dame. Tyree played in 49 games with the Fighting Irish, totaling 3,284 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns– eight rushing, seven receiving, one kick return, and one punt return. Originally a running back, Tyree switched to wide receiver prior to 2023 and averaged 18.62 yards per reception.

Sage Ennis, TE: Former Clemson tight end Sage Ennis announced his commitment to Virginia in January. Coming out of high school, Ennis was high-recruited, earning offers from 40 programs and ranking as the No. 18 tight end in his class. He committed to Clemson, where he spent the last four seasons, including the 2020 and 2021 seasons, with Tony Elliott as his offensive coordinator. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end from Florida played in 41 games over the last four seasons with the Tigers.

Other top portal acquisitions for Virginia:

  • Andre Greene Jr., WR from North Carolina
  • Drake Metcalf, OL from UCF
  • Tyler Neville, TE from Harvard

Boston College Eagles

Sed McConnell, DL: The former Illinois defensive lineman, who is 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 285 pounds, was originally a three-star recruit out of Georgia. McConnell redshirted in the 2021 season and appeared in 7 games with 3 tackles during 2022. This past season, he played in all 12 games and recorded seven tackles.

Jerand Bradley, WR: Bradley was a high-profile commitment for former head coach Jeff Hafley and the offensive staff at Boston College. The former Texas Tech receiver stands at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds and has experience in two seasons, racking up 1,175 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bradley has the ability to make an immediate impact in the ACC and should be a primary target in the passing game in the fall.

Other top portal acquisitions for Boston College:

  • Ryan Turner, DB from Ohio State
  • Treshaun Ward, RD from Kansas State
  • Cameron Martinez, DB from Ohio State
  • Jayden McGowan, WR from Vanderbilt

North Carolina Tar Heels

Jake Johnson, TE: Johnson was the No. 1 tight end in his class out of high school, and 247Sports had him as the No. 3 tight end in the transfer portal cycle. Johnson joins a talented room of tight ends. Still, with a 6-foot-6, 240-pound frame, Johnson could be an advantage for whoever takes over quarterback duties following the departure of Drake Maye, especially if it’s the next player in out list, his brother, Max.

Max Johnson, QB: Following experiments at both LSU and Texas A&M, Johnson looks to bring his experience as an SEC quarterback to Chapel Hill. Following his brother Jake's commitment to UNC, the quarterback decided he would try his chance in Carolina Blue. The 6-foot-5 lefty comes to UNC with experience at the collegiate level, with 5,853 passing yards, 47 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Other top portal acquisitions for North Carolina:

  • Darwin Barlow, RB from Southern Cal
  • Jakeen Harris, S from NC State
  • Austin Blaske, OL from Georgia

Check back in later as we continue to unpack and highlight some more key transfer players that will make an impact across the ACC.
