Four-star safety commits to Clemson: "We are getting the best safety in the country"
Clemson’s 2025 recruiting class is already among the top five in the nation. It just got better. Four-star Georgia native Tae Harris has joined the class as its first 2025 defensive back commit.
“Yesterday I was on the phone with Coach Swinney, Conn, and Goodwin,” Harris said. “We were talking, and I asked, ‘Are y’all ready?’ They said, ‘We’ve been ready. We are getting the best safety in the country.’”
Harris told Clemson Sports Talk that he committed to Clemson because he is a priority to the coaching staff. Safeties coach Mickey Conn has called Harris every day since he de-committed from Georgia in January. The Tigers put the full-court press on Harris as soon as he de-committed. Dabo Swinney sold Harris’ mom on the Clemson program.
Current Tiger defensive back Khalil Barnes has personally recruited Harris this spring.
“Khalil Barnes said he wants me in the secondary with him,” Harris said. “That would be a sight to see.”
Harris also chose Clemson because of the chance for early playing time.
“They played the most defensive freshman in the country last year, and that really appealed to me,” Harris said. “Also, you’re going to graduate if you go to Clemson.”
The four-star said his message to the Clemson community is: “You’re getting the best safety in the country, one who wants to work hard and put his best out on the field.”
Harris’s speed stands out. He ran a 4.38-second laser-timed 40-yard dash at an Under Armour camp last month.
“I cover a lot of ground,” Harris said. “I’m a natural football player. I have great size, speed, and physicality.”
After Harris told the Clemson staff on a phone call that he was committing, the coaches had a strong reaction.
“Coach Swinney was in the Bahamas, I think,” Harris said. “He jumped in the pool. They said, ‘This is who we wanted for a long time, the best in the country.’”
