ATLANTA (May 14, 2024) – Officials today announced the highly anticipated 2024 Aflac Kickoff Game, featuring Clemson vs. Georgia, which will kick off at noon ET on Saturday, Aug. 31 from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and will be nationally telecast on ABC. The marquee Week One matchup of the 2024 season will feature two of the nation’s elite programs who have accounted for four of the last eight College Football Playoff National Championships.

“All eyes will be on Atlanta when two of college football’s biggest brands face off in a showdown that will certainly have College Football Playoff implications,” said Gary Stokan, Peach Bowl, Inc. CEO and president. “Whoever wins this matchup will take the first major step toward the playoff and the possibility of making a return trip to Atlanta when we host our first-ever CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.”

Clemson will appear in the Aflac Kickoff Game for the third time in the program’s history, having won its last two appearances 41-10 over Georgia Tech in 2022 and 26-19 against Auburn in 2012.

Georgia is making its fourth appearance in the Aflac Kickoff Game.  The Bulldogs defeated Oregon 49-3 to open the 2022 season and North Carolina 33-24 in Kirby Smart’s first victory as a head coach in 2016.

The Aflac Kickoff Game will mark the 66th meeting between the two programs dating back to 1897. The Bulldogs currently lead the series with a 43-18-4 all-time record against the Tigers, including the recent 10-3 victory in their 2021 season opener.

Aflac and Peach Bowl, Inc. will team up again to “Kickoff for a Cause,” which focuses on both organization’s initiatives to support children facing cancer. Since 1955, Aflac independent sales agents, employees and The Aflac Foundation, Inc. have given more than $180 million to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Peach Bowl, Inc. has donated more than $20 million to create the Peach Bowl LegACy Fund that is currently supporting 14 clinical drug trials for children.

“Our support of the Aflac Kickoff Game extends beyond the field, exemplified by last year’s teamwork raising over $363,000 for pediatric cancer, a cause we’ve championed for nearly 30 years,” said Aflac Chief Marketing Officer Garth Knutson. “Building on the success of last year’s Kickoff for a Cause, we eagerly anticipate this year’s matchup to launch National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and remind fans how Aflac helps close the gap where health insurance ends and medical bills begin.”

Both teams will battle for The Old Leather Helmet Trophy, one of college football’s newest rivalry-style icons. Traditionally, winners of The Old Leather Helmet don the helmet on the field after the game, starting with the head coach and then rotating from player to player as the team celebrates its victory.
