Tarheel State forward with ties to UNC and Clemson commits to Tigers
Lake Norman High power forward Trent Steinour (6'10, 200) became the first 2025 commit for Clemson basketball on Thursday. Steinour announced his pledge to the Tigers via social media over offers from Charlotte, Georgia, High Point, Penn State, Radford, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
The Mooresville, NC native averaged 15.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks per game last season. Arguably his best game came on Dec. 21, 2023, in the Phenom Holiday Classic against Carmel Christian (NC), when he poured in 30 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and blocked three shots.
However, his outstanding performance of 27 points, 16 rebounds, and 13 blocks against East Forsyth in the 4A-NCHSAA playoffs (3/01/2024) is more than noteworthy as well.
It is also worth noting that Steinour is the grandson of Clemson legend and former first-team All-ACC (1966-67) player Randy Mahaffey. Mahaffey averaged 16 points and 9.7 rebounds during his career with the Tigers and even became an ABA All-Star in 1968. Mahaffey’s brothers – Donnie, Ronnie, and Richie – also played for Clemson.
Furthermore, Steinour's father, Sean, played tennis at UNC and he is on the Lake Norman tennis team.
