Senior defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart had his most productive season for Clemson in 2023 and is poised to be a starter in 2024.

Capehart spoke to the media on Friday, Day 2 of fall camp.

On how he has improved from stepping on campus in 2020 to now:

"I just say committed. I'm always willing to get better. I show up every day. I'm not satisfied. I show up with a hungry mindset every day. I want to be better. So I just say the thing from then to now is I'm more hungry now than I was back then. I see it. I want to eat it."

On what is different about his technique:
"Nothing differently just coached smarter. My coach is on me all the time – small details. You got to want to be better and take the small things seriously. So that's how you get better."

On the defensive unit, stepping up to replace Ruke Orhorhoro, the 35th overall selection (Atlanta Falcons) in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Tyler Davis, a sixth-round selection by the Los Angeles Rams in the Draft:

"We talked about passing the torch. What they laid the foundation for we just got to pick up and keep going with it. No drop-off. We know what is expected and we just got to show up and bring it every day."

On Peter Woods's versatility and ability to play defensive end at 319 pounds:

"I don't know about anybody else but Peter Woods is a freak. He's a freak of nature. He's a freak of talent. He can do anything. As a 300-pound man myself, I don’t know how he does some of the things he does. It's Peter Woods. He's one of one."

On if there was a player that came to mind when thinking about the freakiest thing he'd seen Woods do:

"He's just himself. He's going to be himself. He's going to be a very legendary player when he's done here. It's just all around -- smartness, technique, physicality -- everything."

On what makes the defensive line special compared to other schools:

"It's like that little brother mentality. We got each other. We can mess with each other, but when it's outside, nothing is going to slide. We got each other's back. It became stronger this past summer. We've been working with each other all summer just grinding, really having each other's back, [and] pushing each other. So, when we're on each other, we know it's love. We want more from each other. So it's within. We know it's genuine."
