Ryan Linthicum Speaks on His New Role, "I’m just ready to work every day and compete"

Following the departure of former Clemson center Will Putnam, the Tigers had a hole at center they were looking to fill. Junior Ryan Linthicum looks to be the man for the job. He spoke with the media following practice to discuss his new role. 

On Being the Starter: I mean, it feels great, man. Putnam, you know, he was a great leader for me. I learned a lot from him. He was a good vet, and he taught me a lot. So I mean, I patiently waited, but I’m just happy. It’s God’s plan, and it’s his plan, so it’s perfect timing. So, I’m just ready to work every day and compete and get ready to get out there with the guys. 

On What He Learned from Will Putnam: I just really learned how to work hard and how to practice. I think that was the main thing coming from high school for me: learning how to practice hard. He was one of the hardest workers I could’ve been around. He was a great vet, and I think he really taught me well. So, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. 

On How His Body is Feeling: I feel like I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since I’ve been here, and, I mean, it just goes to the work. The guys push me a lot. You know we’ve got great offensive linemen. They push me to be better every day. Tristan, Marcus, Blake, all the guys push me to be great. We push each other; it’s a great environment. 

On Walker Parks’s Return and What His Presence Brings: Yeah, I mean, Walker, he’s got that dog mentality. He’s really the vet in our group, and Walker’s one of the best guards I’ve been around. He pushes me, and he brings that nastiness that I love, and he makes me play harder. It’s great to have him back, and I’m thankful he got cleared, and he’s able to play with us because I know this game means a lot to him. I’m glad he’s back. I love Walker, he’s a great dude too.
